A Demonstration of Digital Engineering

18:30 – 20:00 18-04-2017
EC1V 3PS

Join experts from the built environement sector as they discuss the impact of Digital Engineering. We will be hosting several presentations from different perspectives of the industry followed by the opportunity to network with industry leaders around drinks and nibbles to discuss some of the most recent digital advances.

The presentations include:

  1. Alison Woodley and Peter Folwell [Plowman Craven] - A presentation on 3D data capture and its application on design and construction schemes. Particular focus will be given to BIM and construction verification, while highlighting laser scanning and drone technology.

  2. Sophie Leonard [Skanska] – ‘Trusting Collaboration’. As the industry progresses, information is shared faster and more freely, but how do we trust that information? This discussion will reference data structure and validation, as wellas the importance of young engineers understanding this challenging set processes, how change does take time, and the legal implications of sharing data.

  3. Harri Lewis [Mule Studio] – A presentation on a series of hiking cabins in the Cairngorms in Scotland. The talk will focus on architectural and engineering research pavilions, the technology used and how we can implement these ideas and technology into real buildings. There will be a live demo of geometry optimisation, data structures to help fabrication and assembly and quick links from complex geometries to FE analysis software.

  4. Mark Deakin [Microsoft] – Many think in terms of ‘Physical Reality’ and ‘Virtual Reality’, Microsoft HoloLens is designed to combine both of these worlds as ‘Mixed Reality’. During this session I will cover how we make this happen and examples of how we are seeing it used.

The future of design and construction is here… Are you ready to take the next step?
